Book on 70 years of Nepal-China relations released in Beijing

Beijing, The book “Sumadhur Sambandhaka 70 Sal” published by the Nepal–China Media Forum has been launched in Beijing.

The book was unveiled at the auditorium of the Nepali Embassy in Beijing. On the occasion, Forum Chairman Kishor Shrestha stated that the publication is a documented record of Nepal–China relations.

Jointly organized by the Nepali Embassy and the Nepal–China Media Forum, the event was attended by more than 80 Chinese scholars. These scholars, engaged in Nepal-related studies and research at various Chinese universities, remarked that the book will serve as a milestone in the friendly relations between the two countries.

Nepal’s Ambassador to China, Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli, expressed delight at being able to launch such a book. Thanking the Forum and its Chair Shrestha for compiling the major achievements of 70 years of Nepal–China ties, he noted that the book preserves history by documenting the key milestones since the establishment of diplomatic relations, offering a living record for present and future generations.

Sharing his views on the book, Qiu Guoming of the Confucius Institute said that the publication would be a useful and authoritative source for all those interested in Nepal–China relations. He added that the bilingual format in both Nepali and Chinese makes it accessible to readers in both countries.

Xiamen University Professor Jiang Xiaoxian remarked that the book had been published at an important juncture and highlighted that it encapsulates the various turning points in China–Nepal relations. Praising the work, he said the book is a collectible for researchers.

Speaking at the program, Ran Zhigang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Yunnan International Economic, Trade, and Cultural Cooperation, expressed his happiness at participating in the ceremony. He noted that compiling 70 years of history into a single book in both Chinese and Nepali was indeed a challenging task.

Chairman Shrestha of the Nepal–China Media Forum said it was a matter of pride to publish the book in Nepal and then launch it in China. He stated that releasing the book on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China was a significant achievement. He also expressed gratitude to Chinese scholars who traveled from distant provinces to attend the event and make it a success.

The program concluded with a discussion session including a Q&A. The book, published on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Nepal–China diplomatic ties, includes bilateral treaties and agreements along with various dimensions of the relationship.

It also covers China’s contributions to Nepal’s infrastructure development, including the grant support for the establishment of Nepal Rastra Bank. The book critically reviews China’s investment in Nepal’s physical infrastructure over the past seven decades.

By the end of May in the fiscal year 2023/24, Chinese entrepreneurs had invested more than NPR 224 billion in 2,448 businesses and projects in Nepal, according to the book.
