China appoints new ambassador to Nepal

Kathmandu: The People’s Republic of China has nominated Zhang Maoming, Deputy Director-General of the Asian Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as its new ambassador to Nepal. China has submitted the required agrément to the Government of Nepal for Zhang’s appointment.

The Chinese Embassy in Nepal formally presented the agrément for the new ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday. Zhang Maoming is set to replace former Ambassador Chen Song, who returned to China about two weeks ago after completing a three-year term and receiving a promotion.

Zhang is currently serving as Director-General of the Policy Planning Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This department is responsible for studying global developments, analyzing strategic issues in international relations, formulating diplomatic policies, and preparing important diplomatic documents and statements.

The newly nominated ambassador, Zhang, is not a new name in Nepal’s political and diplomatic circles. He has previously met Nepal’s political leadership and senior officials on several occasions at various events. He is known as a Chinese diplomat who has a good understanding of Nepal’s internal and external affairs.
