Long Live Nepal-China Diplomatic Ties, says Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming

Kathmandu: Zhang Maoming has assumed office as the 23rd Ambassador of China to Nepal on Friday. He formally took charge after presenting his credentials to Chief of Protocol Kumar Kharel. He is scheduled to present his letter of credence to President Ram Chandra Paudel next week.

Upon assuming his responsibilities at the embassy, Ambassador Zhang expressed his commitment to further strengthening and diversifying Nepal–China relations.

Arriving in Kathmandu on Friday, Ambassador Zhang stated that he felt honored to carry out the responsibility entrusted to him by Chinese President Xi Jinping. He also extended his gratitude to all sectors of Nepali society for their continued support in promoting Nepal–China friendship.

Ambassador Zhang noted that Nepal and China have remained close neighboring nations for 71 years, with relations steadily advancing on the basis of mutual trust, mutual respect, and cooperation. He reiterated China’s firm support for Nepal’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and chosen path of development, and appreciated Nepal’s consistent adherence to the “One China Policy.”

Recalling President Xi Jinping’s visit to Nepal in 2019, Ambassador Chang stated that the visit elevated bilateral relations to a strategic partnership of cooperation featuring long-term friendship for prosperity and development. According to him, cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), along with growing people-to-people exchanges, has delivered tangible benefits to both countries.

He highlighted the expanding collaboration particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, energy, connectivity, trade expansion, and cultural exchange. Looking ahead, Ambassador Chang said China is preparing to enter the period of its 15th Five-Year Plan and will further broaden high-level openness, creating new opportunities for partner countries such as Nepal.

He reaffirmed China’s readiness to work closely with Nepal to deepen cooperation across all sectors for shared development and mutual benefit. The Chinese Embassy in Nepal, he added, will continue to pursue “people-centered diplomacy” and remain active in safeguarding the rights and interests of Chinese citizens in Nepal.

Ambassador Zhang  emphasized that both countries should make joint efforts to elevate the Nepal–China strategic partnership to new heights and to build a community with a shared future.
