If Trump hadn’t intervened, there would have been a devastating war with India: Pakistani PM

New York. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that former U.S. President Donald Trump played a decisive role in preventing a war with India.

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Sharif credited Trump for stopping a potential India–Pakistan war.

While India has denied giving Trump any credit, Sharif raised the issue at the UNGA, even suggesting that Trump deserves a Nobel Peace Prize.

“If President Trump had not intervened in the India–Pakistan tensions, the outcome could have been devastating,” Sharif said. “That is why Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for preventing a war between India and Pakistan.”

Accusing India of politically exploiting the Pahalgam incident, Sharif stated that Pakistan, following the vision of its founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah, wishes to resolve all matters through talks and dialogue.

He added, “Pakistan will fully defend itself against external aggression. We have achieved victories in war, now we want peace. Pakistan is ready for comprehensive and effective dialogue with India on all outstanding issues.”

India, however, has consistently rejected the idea that any third party played a role in halting India–Pakistan conflicts.

In a recent interview, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said, “For many years, there has been a national consensus that all issues with Pakistan will be resolved bilaterally.”
